ASME B16.9 Pipe Fittings: Buyer RFQ Guide

How to combine a dimensional standard with material, wall and project requirements.

Use this guide to prepare a clearer technical request. Final manufacturing feasibility is confirmed against the complete RFQ, drawings and project specification.

Use a complete specification

A dimensional-standard reference does not replace fitting type, material grade, size, schedule, quantity or project conditions.

Define fitting geometry

For elbows state angle and radius; for tees identify run and branch; for reducers identify end sizes and concentric or eccentric form.

Confirm wall and ends

State the mating pipe schedule, minimum-wall requirement, bevel and any field-welding constraints.

Control the edition

Identify the required standard edition and any purchaser specification that changes dimensions, tolerances, marking or testing.

Agree inspection

Define dimensional records, material documents, surface acceptance and packing checks before manufacture.
