Recognize the product route
ASTM A234 WPB is commonly referenced for wrought piping fittings, while ASTM A105 is commonly referenced for forged piping components.
Do not substitute by strength alone
Product form, manufacturing process, dimensions and governing component specification must support the selected material.
Pair material with dimensions
Include the dimensional standard, size, schedule or class, end preparation and supplementary requirements.
State heat-treatment needs
Where the project controls heat treatment or hardness, include the applicable clauses and acceptance requirements.
Request traceability
Define material documentation, identification transfer and marking before quotation.
Standards can be revised and projects may add special requirements. State the designation, edition and supplementary conditions in the RFQ.
